On Monday, February 10th, 2014, our very own Olympian, Ms. Wendy Baker, gave a thoroughly engaging presentation to the Grade 4 to 8 students of St. Gabriel Catholic School about her formative and competitive years in 1976 and 1988 (Seoul, South Korea) as a field hockey goal tender for the National Olympic Women’s field hockey squad. Ms. Baker enthralled everyone in attendance with stories of aspiring to be an Olympian starting from her humble beginnings growing up in Winnipeg to her journey to the University of Toronto’s women’s field hockey squad and a gruelling daily regime of training and practice. Her demonstration of courage and perseverance in not letting a serious knee injury hinder her chances for success in the sport of field hockey are incredibly inspiring and admirable. Thanks for sharing a memorable piece of your life story with our community!
