Student Transportation

Cartoon of a school bus Bus Safety

All students are reminded of fundamental behavior expectations when riding either the buses to and from school or chartered buses for school trips. During the duration of the bus trip, students are expected to be seated at any time that the bus is moving. Students should always be facing forward and noise should be kept to a minimum.

Students are reminded that having bus transportation to and from school each day is a privilege but it is not a right. Any student who persistently does not conform to expectations on the buses could have bus privileges removed.

Parents are reminded that only those students who are designated bus students may ride the regular daily buses. Due to insurance restrictions, parents cannot request, even in writing, permission to have another child ride the bus for a special occasion (doing projects, etc.) nor can a regular bus student switch buses even for a single ride to another classmate’s home.

Bus Loop Usage

As most parents are well aware, the bus loop at St. Gregory’s is a very busy and a very popular place. In order to make every effort to ensure the safety of everyone, the following reminders are provided for all parents. Please note as well that the busiest times for the bus loop are from approximately 8:15a.m. – 8:45a.m. and from 2:50p.m. – 3:15p.m. (If it is possible to avoid the loop during those times, please do so.).

·        The bus loop must be respected as exclusively a one-way route! Entrance to the loop is on the east side (closest to    the church) and to exit, the vehicle should proceed around the horseshoe and out the west side.
·        Rate of speed through the loop should be extremely slow! (5km/hr is reasonable).
·        Buses must have priority entering the loop.
·        Parents are discouraged from passing in the loop.
·        Students should have backpacks ready to exit the car quickly.
·        Parents should not leave the vehicle unless you have parked in a designated parking spot.
