Interest Day Letter with accompanying padlets below:
             April 11, 2014

Dear Parents:

This letter is being sent to tell you about our upcoming Interest Day on May 6th.

Every student was given a sheet of options to choose a learning activity that most closely mirrored their interest. This is a key connection to our school learning plan and the Ministry of Education learning skill of self regulation – identify your strengths, weaknesses and areas of interest. Your child has chosen the activity checked off below.

_____ Photography (includes a trip to Edge imaging’s factory and a chance to work with a professional photographer taking nature pictures. Having a camera will help)  ALL AGES

____Music composition (morning will be working with Garage band and apple loops.) Afternoon will be continuation including creation and recording of your own song        Gr. 3 and up

___Dance    geek freeks dance workshop  - opportunity to work for the day with dance choreographers     ALL AGES

___   Special effects make up/art   Morning will be learning how to apply special effects make up and face painting. Afternoon will be learning how to make animal balloons    ALL AGES

____Animation and Rubik’s cube Am will be for learning how to draw characters (the way Walt Disney would do) and pm for rubik’s cube workshop   Rubik’s cubes are needed – you may also buy one for $10     Gr. 3 and up

___Reference library for 3D printing and use of green screen (you will be going to the Metro Toronto Reference Library and learning how to create something on a 3D printer)

___Leadership and climbing wall outdoor experience – Gr. 3 and up. Chance to go to an outdoor education site and do rock climbing and a ropes course. Includes leadership development

____Cooking with a chef at a restaurant  ALL AGES

As a result of various grants that we applied for, our exemplary practice award from the school board (for our school learning plan), and contributions from our CSAC, we are able to offer this fantastic learning experience to our students for a mere $5. This includes transportation and some very experienced guides and speakers.

In order to make this a true collaborative experience, we are asking you to help your child take part in a before and after activity – simply type in the  padlet link for your child’s activity(you can also go directly to the check in page of our school website if you’d prefer to click directly on the link) and together with your child post a learning question you have about the activity you have chosen. After the activity, we ask you to go back on the padlet and post with your child one thing they learned or found interesting. There is no better way to support your child’s learning than to be actively involved in their learning journey with them. This activity will help with the creation of effective communicators, collaborative contributors, creative, reflective, holistic thinkers, and self-directed, life-long learners. We greatly encourage you (as caring family members) to get involved.

Please sign the attached permission form IF your child is taking a bus for their activity (some of our activities are taking place in the school and as a result do not have a permission form). We are looking forward to an excellent day of learning. If you would like to join us for the day, please let your child’s teacher know.

Sincerely,

Mr. R. Fernandes
Principal
