Toronto Catholic District School Board

St. Jerome Uniform Policy

It is the intent of the Toronto Catholic District School Board to revise the Dress Code for Pupils Policy S.S.07 to coincide with the implementation of an Appropriate Dress Code in all of our elementary schools by September 2011.

The Appropriate Dress Code consists of any combination of white and navy blue garments (i.e., plain white top with collar, white T-Shirt, navy blue bottom; navy blue top with collar and bottom; no denim). The many advantages for parents, students and schools are outlined in a question and answer pamphlet for parents that is available on the board website.

St. Jerome Catholic School has begun implementing the Appropriate Dress Code in September 2011. Parents have been supplied with a wide variety of suitable retailers from which to select the navy blue or white tops with navy blue bottoms. The dress code will be strictly enforced and students will be expected to arrive in proper dress code each day. In addition:
·         Blue Jeans and “skinny jeans” are NOT part of the school uniform;
·         There will be no T-shirts or other clothing, knapsacks etc. with vulgar expressions, pictures or any content judged to be offensive, demeaning, and violent or gang related.
·         Clothing must cover the body appropriately.  This includes no short shorts or short skirts, mid-riff baring tops, tank tops with spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, bandanas, excessively sagging pants, ripped or tattered clothing, or any clothing that exposes body parts inappropriately.
·         Individuals wearing inappropriate clothing at school will be expected to change into more acceptable apparel.
·         No hats or headwear are allowed in the school
·         The school strongly discourages wearing make-up, inappropriate piercing, body art, tattoos

For physical education classes, students are expected to change into suitable clothing.  This consists of shorts or track pants, T-Shirt or sweatshirt and running shoes.  For the primary classes, running shoes will suffice.
