SPANISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

Spanish may be used as a 3rd language graduation requirement (Group 1)
 
SPANISH LEVEL 2
(Academic) LWS BD1
Credit Value: 1
This course provides students with the Spanish language learning experience that will enable them to communicate in Spanish in oral and written form.  They will develop and apply their speaking, reading, listening and writing skills in a variety of contexts.  The language the students will use at this level will still be simple.  They will explore aspects of the Spanish culture.  Printed and technological resources will be used.  
Prerequisite:  None
 
SPANISH LEVEL 3
(University Prep) LWS CU1
Credit Value: 1
This course provides students with opportunities to further develop their communication skills in the international language and to increase their confidence in applying them in a variety of practical situations, including contexts related to future employment.  Students will engage in a variety of activities and use resources that will allow them to use the language in various real-life situations.  They will also continue to explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language is spoken, and investigate careers that require facility in the language.
Prerequisite:   Spanish Level 2 Academic LWS BD1
 
SPANISH LEVEL 4
(University Prep) LWS DU1

This course prepares students to continue learning Spanish at University level.  This course will consolidate students’ reading and writing skills by using new grammar structures and new vocabulary through different learning experiences.  Students will read and discuss some relevant pieces of Spanish literature, as well as elements of the Spanish culture and business communications.
Prerequisite:  Spanish Level 3 University Preparation LWS CU1
 
SPANISH LEVEL 4
(Open) LWS DO1
Credit Value: 1
This course provides students with opportunities to consolidate the language skills required for effective communication in business and personal contexts.  Students will use a variety of print and technological resources that will promote their ability to apply the language in practical situations, and will engage in activities such as writing memos, reading articles, and applying conversational skills in business contexts.  They will also add to their knowledge of the culture of countries where the language is spoken by using resources from the local and international community.
Prerequisite:  Spanish Level 3 University Preparation or Open LWS CU1 or LWS CO1
