SJPII students win Best Paper in Canada

In March 2017 Rahul Ramani, Aamir Haroon, Krishna Bhagat & Ryan de Sao Jose of St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School competed in a National Mathematical Modelling Challenge, in which teams of four students worked for 5 consecutive days solving a real-world problem using math and computer programming.
The team created an algorithm to determine the best city for an international organization to hold a meeting. The goal was to minimize the effects of jet lag as the participants were coming from different time zones and different climates. They won a 2017 Best Paper in Canada for this and were selected to represent our country, advancing to the international level of this prestigious competition, (the IM2C).
Last month, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences at the Univesity of Toronto asked them to present their solution paper and share their experience in math modeling at the Mathematics Education Forum. They represented their school and the TCDSB admirably.
Student Participants: Rahul Ramani, Aamir Haroon, Krishna Bhagat & Ryan de Sao Jose
Advisor: Mr. Joseph Indovina
