St. John Paul II Students Paint Chairs for Athletes’ Village
Students were invited to submit a design for a chair to be used in the Pan Am athletes' village. The design created by Michelle Hoang in gr 9 was the best. She had made the design to be a waterfront theme using mostly blue colours. The committee chose a different chair for that category however they liked Michelle's design so much that they added a 4th and 5th chair to the plan and decided to have one signature chair for the Pan Am games and another for the Parapan Am Games. They asked Michelle to alter her initial design to include more sports and then create a new design with events specific to the Parapan Am Games.
12 students were chosen and then the team organized how they would transfer the design, bought the supplies with the money supplied by the Pan Am committee and spent one day, May 25, drawing and painting both chairs. They chatted with the other students, from Hamilton, Whitby and Newmarket, who were just as happy and honoured to be there painting. After the Games the 2 chairs will be delivered to St John Paul II for all our students to use and have as a reminder of the Games.
