Principal's Message

                                                                                                              April, 2012

St. Joseph School Parent Community:

The first week of April finds St. Joseph School community busily preparing for Easter.  Students in grades 4 to 6 celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation to welcome the grace of Christ in their hearts.  The Easter Play staged on Holy Thursday by Mr. Cotter and Ms. Bell and their students tells the story of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus.  As a Catholic school community, we must be very thankful to have our faith proclaimed by our children in such a beautiful and profoundly moving way.  We must also be grateful for the exceptional talents and dedication of our teachers.  The way to the heart is through the arts, through beauty to truth, to the One who says, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life".

This year the TCDSB established Navy and White as the Dress Code for all of our schools.  Our students and families have implemented Navy and White for most of the year, but staff began to notice a variety of colours in classrooms after March Break.  To be clear, the expectation is that all children in every classroom will be wearing Navy and White every day; no exceptions.  The Navy and White dress code does not permit jeans, cut-offs, short shorts, sleeveless tops or other warm weather wear that might be appropriate for the beach, not for school.  We thank you for your continued support of Navy and White.

Our next CSAC meeting is on Monday, April 16.  Among other agenda items, there will be some discussion of   Full-Day Kindergarten and how we can support "Intentional Play-Based Learning" through home learning activities.

Congratulations to our Junior Volleyball Teams who competed in tournaments in March.  Our Junior Boys came back with a penant!

Happy Easter,

Jim McGee, Principal
