St. Joseph School Parent Community,
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved school custodian, Mike Dingillo, who passed away suddenly in October, leaving us all not sure where to turn.  Our children showed us the way, preparing beautiful prayers, poems, and acrostics which were read at a simple prayer ceremony the day we got the news.  Father Wilson was in the school that morning comforting the students; that afternoon we gathered at St. Joseph’s for a decade of the Rosary.  We had a Memorial Mass for Mike the Friday afternoon before his funeral.  St. Joseph’s Parent Council (CASC) is having work bee Saturday, November 3, to prepare a Memorial Garden for Mike.  Sheridan Nurseries has generously donated over 200 tulip bulbs which will be planted, weather permitting, Monday, November 5, with Father Frank to bless the project.
October was a busy month for sporting events with our St. Joseph’s School Cross Country Team competing at races along the lake at Kew Beach. The Cross Country Running season ended today at Earl Bales Park with five St. Josephs students competing on a cold November day a few snow flakes flying.  October ended on the 31st with a most creative celebration of costume craft displayed at the annual Halloween costume parade.  Our next school assembly this month is the Remembrance Day ceremony being held at 10:30 in the gym on  Friday, November 9 since Remembrance Day is on a Sunday this year.
Let us continue the Learning Improvement Focus in our conversations at the up-coming Parent Teacher conferences on November 15 and 16.  This first report, you will remember, highlights our students’ Learning Skills and Work Habits.  We should be asking, “What are the Learning Goals and Related Success Criteria?” as a way of clarifying  what we are looking for in our children’s learning improvement.
