2019 Ryerson Chemistry Lab
Who killed Eggy? On April 1, St. Joe’s Chemistry students took on the role of sleuths to solve the mysterious death of Ryerson University’s mascot. They used their lab skills to analyze samples from the crime scene to determine who was responsible. Our girls were able to calculate concentrations of ions in solution and then measure the absorbance of the solutions using mass spectrometers. By comparing the crime scene solutions to a set of samples from various locations, they could identify the location of the crime.
This lab experience provided the girls with an opportunity to develop skills in using advanced analytical equipment unavailable to most high school students. They applied calculation methods they have used in chemistry class to a problem and carefully followed lab procedures with precision. As always, our girls worked collaboratively as a team and represented our school beautifully. It was a great day of chemistry learning!
