The Social Sciences Department offers a variety of courses for students who are interested in this field. Courses include Food and Nutrition, Living and Working with Children, Fashion and Creative Expression, Living Spaces and Shelter, Challenge and Change in Society, and Individuals and Families in a Diverse Society.
 This department also offers a variety of courses in the area of business to prepare students for the corporate world of 21st century. Courses include Introduction to Business, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Information Processing, Computer Engineering, Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Business Administration. All business courses also offer Co-operative Education whereby a student can actually get hands on experience in the subject of their choice.
Students can participate in the OBEA competition in the areas of Accounting, Computer Programming, Desktop Publishing, Web Page Developement, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, etc. These competitions take place in May of each year. An additional competitions Idea Competition & Skills Canada Ontario. Students can also take part in the Computer Club after school where web-page design is one of the skills learned. To enhance business-related skills, students are encouraged to participate in DECA where students learn to make business decisions through the use of case studies. Students compete at local, national and international levels. Junior Achievement is also encouraged. It provides students with the opportunity to start and run a business. Community and business leaders assist students in this endeavour.
