SJMP Music Goes to Ottawa - 2017

group photo of music students

SJMP took Ottawa by storm performing with superior excellence in St. Joseph Morrow Park’s inaugural music trip.  Each and every student represented our school community with the utmost professionalism, respect, and maturity.  The musical experience began with 80 minute workshops for both Chamber Choir and Wind Ensemble.  This was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to work with other distinct professionals in an effort to improve their overall musical and performance skills.  The rest of the day followed with a tour of Ottawa that included Byward Market and Notre Dame Basilica.
The next day it was Show Time!  Both choir and band performed at the Rhythms International Music Festival.  Each performance was adjudicated by three illustrious judges who analyzed all aspects of their performance.  Each performance was then followed up by hour long workshops which continued the learning process for each and every student.  The performances were outstanding with each group receiving high praises.  Following a busy morning, it was time to relax and enjoy the rest of what Ottawa had to offer.  The first stop of the afternoon was the Rideau Centre, Canadian Museum of History, and Banquet/Awards Ceremony.  This was a monumental evening as the Choir was awarded an Excellence standing and the Band a Superior standing which are the highest levels of achievement at the Rhythms International Music Festival.  The Girls also received a letter from the Mayor of Ottawa as well as the flag of Ontario which each student signed and will be hung in the music room for years to come.
The third and final day of the trip concluded with a spectacular visit to our nation’s parliament building with viewing the senate, the library, and a bus ride to see the RCMP stables and the Prime Minister’s Home at 24 Sussex Drive.  A magical three days filled with a lifetime of memories.  Stay tuned for our next instalment of musical adventure which will be to Quebec City in 2019.
