French Immersion Consultation
October 12, 2017
Dear Parents and Staff of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic School:
As part of the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s ongoing responsibility to offer dynamic educational opportunities across the City of Toronto, the Board has created a draft Long Term Program Plan (LTPP). Aspects of the plan include opportunities for enhanced programming including the introduction of French Immersion Programs at additional school sites.
The LTPP is a living document that is reviewed regularly by the Board. To contribute to the flexibility that is built into the plan, community consultation takes place prior to moving forward with any proposed program changes suggested in the draft document. St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School is one of the sites where the addition of French Immersion Programming is being considered for September 2018. The model to be discussed includes the gradual implementation of French Immersion beginning in kindergarten in addition to continuing English programming in all grades for families who do not wish to participate in French Immersion. As a member of a nearby school community, you may be interested in participating in the consultation process.
An evening of consultation regarding French Immersion programming will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 7:00 pm at St. Alphonsus School. At the meeting, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about French Immersion programming, participate in round table discussion and complete a survey. Your input and feedback is very important to us and essential to informing the Board’s program plans for the school
The meeting will be attended by members of the St. Alphonsus School community, invited members of the greater community, staff from the TCDSB French Department, Trustee Jo Ann Davis, an administrator from another school that has recently implemented FI and other senior staff.
We thank you in advance for your participation and input and we look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Dan Koenig John Wujek
