Toronto Catholic District School Board

Academics

St. Monica Catholic School provides an optimal learning environment, rooted in Catholic faith formation. We celebrate our faith at our monthly mass, prepare students for the Sacraments, demonstrate local and global citizenship, and nurture spiritual growth among our students in their daily interactions with their peers and teachers. We work closely with our parent community building a strong home-school connection. Our teachers believe in each and every student's ability to learn, progress and achieve success by providing student-focused learning opportunities thus maintaining a strong commitment to a tradition of academic excellence.

We are aware of changing societal trends and respond accordingly to prepare our students for transitions to secondary education opportunities and the world of work in the 21st century.  Staff have attended numerous TCDSB and self directed professional development in Literacy, Numeracy and Religious Education. Our staff continue to hone their skills by attending HUB meetings, workshops, in-services relating to teaching and learning. In keeping with our Safe School practice, our school community is engaged to ensure students are afforded optimal learning conditions. We provide a safe, welcoming learning environment wherein students are motivated to achieve individual potential, experience success in student leadership opportunities, nurture faith development, and demonstrate talents and skills in Academics, the Arts, and in Athletics.

We continue our commitment to instructional programs which provide opportunities for ALL students to achieve success. Our academic focus will continue in Literacy, Numeracy, Pathways and Catholicity, Community, Culture and Caring. The School Improvement Team reviews our success, strengths and needs as we plan for the year ahead, utilizing the School Effectiveness Framework to consolidate our teaching strategies for ongoing school improvement and student success.  We continue our commitment to Assessment for, and of Learning, School and Classroom Leadership, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Programs and Pathways, and Home, School, and Community Partnerships. Our student faith ambassadors will continue their focus on local acts of kindness to charities and individuals needing our support. Our strong tradition of almsgiving throughout the school year are indicators of important charitable work embarked upon by our student leaders. A global outreach project in alignment with Me to We initiatives will enhance their work.

The St. Monica Catholic School Advisory Council is a strong supporter of academic achievement. Fundraising efforts this year will align with and support educational initiatives in a variety of ways. Our CSAC enhances our charitable deeds throughout the year and provides support for various charitable situations.
