Blessed Mother Teresa at Canada Reads 2014
Ms. Pinto's Grade 11 Native Studies English University  Enriched class has been studying the works of Native Canadian author Joseph Boyden this month, and they started watching Canada Reads 2014 on CBC where Boyden's book The Orenda is being defended by Native journalist Wab Kinew. This week long book competition and debate centers around discovering the book that Canada should read, and it is based on the theme The Book That Can Change Canada. Ms. Pinto  was luckily able to get tickets last minute to the event. The CBC treated them so well, and gave them VIP status.  Boyden's publisher Penguin gave her students some of their Team Orenda shirts, and her students participated so positively with great behaviour and great questions. You can actually see it if you go on the Canada Reads website and look at Day 3 Q & A. It was a wonderful day, with wonderful students who were engaged and excited about books.
