All courses in the St. Patrick’s English Department emphasize the development of student literacy, communication, along with critical and creative thinking skills. 21st century literacy encompasses oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy that students need for success in their secondary school academic programs, post-secondary pathways and in their daily lives.
Courses in the English Department at St. Patrick’s offer a space where students can grapple with literary and literacy concepts at a deeper level. Students are challenged to make connections between literature and society. These links may offer personal solace, support journeys of faith but more importantly they become catalysts for changing perceptions of society and how students comprehend the world.
