
This course prepares students to meet the dynamic and diverse challenges in this multifaceted industry.
With both a theoretical and practical hands-on approach to learning, students are introduced to essential transferable work skills, critical thinking and practical problem-solving strategies. In addition, students develop communication, teamwork and customer service skills that are standard practice in the hospitality industry and prepare them for any post-secondary education destinations, in both business and service sectors.
Using practical, hands-on activities students gain experience with equipment and procedures commonly used in commercial food preparation, baking, event planning, marketing, human resource management, and Tourism Administration.
Courses also examine the cultural and economic forces that drive social trends, world economies and the business side of these sectors.

St. Patrick’s Construction Engineering SHSM allows
students to experience a range of customized learning opportunities in an area that interests them, and helps to engage them in their school program.
SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major), gives students the opportunity to explore, identify, and refine career goals and make informed decisions related to postsecondary education or training and next steps towards a career.
SHSM helps students gain confidence in their ability to succeed, and see the connections between their studies, by exposing them to the world beyond high school, and their possible future careers.
Scholarship/bursary and incentive opportunities are offered for SHSM graduates.
