Former TCDSB Graduate & Professional Choreographer Brings the Joy of Dance to St. Rita

Through Student Success and the SpeakUp Project Program, St. Rita intermediate
students were given an amazing opportunity to learn from one of the best in the dance
Brandon “Bizzy” Owusu, former TCDSB student and graduate, ran dance workshops
within a two day span in order to strengthen student engagement and build self
confidence. Thereafter, the intermediate students made connections with the school
community as they helped “Bizzy” teach dance to the younger grades.
Brandon brings a plethora of dance experience to the hallways of St. Rita. He has
trained in dance styles such as Hip Hop, Dancehall, and African. He has danced with
artists such as Ariana Grande, French Montana, Rihanna, Drake, Paula Abdul, and
many more! Brandon was recently flown to LA and his choreography skills were
showcased on The Ellen Show! He has also worked with leading choreographers in the
dance industry such as Laurieann Gibson, Luther Brown, Jae Blaze, Blake McGrath,
Tanish Scott, to name a few. Brandon even won YouTube’s “Next Up Contest” as a
digital creator and influencer!
Mr. Contiga (Grade 7/8 Teacher) said, “Brandon is amazing! His fun, caring, and
infectious personality brings out the best in you!” In fact, Mr. Contiga and Brandon
share some history, as Brandon was Mr. Contiga’s former Co-op student when he
attended Msgr. Percy Johnson and Mr. Contiga was an intermediate teacher at St.
Benedict. Mr. Contiga adds, “I remember when he was my co-op student. He connected
with the students instantly and the respect they showed him was tremendous. From that
time, I knew that he was going to do some great things! I am so happy that he was able
to inspire my students and let them know that hard work does pay off. I am so proud of
Mr. Contiga, the grade 7/8 class, and the entire St. Rita community would like to again
thank Student Success, the SpeakUp Projects Program, and “Bizzy” for making these
two amazing days happen!
