Toronto Catholic District School Board

Principal`s Message

grace Iafrate

Welcome to St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. A warm welcome all our new families, staff and community partners who have joined the St. Rose of Lima community this school year.  As the new principal, I am very delighted to be part of the St. Rose of Lima ‘family’ and community.  I look forward to celebrating with the students, staff and parent community the many joys and successes that this school year awaits.  This upcoming school year promises to be filled with a variety of learning experiences and opportunities through classroom programming, extracurricular activities, special community events, and Eucharistic celebrations.

As we approach the school’s 60th anniversary, we continue to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of everyone affiliated with St. Rose of Lima, both past, present and for years to come.

As a staff, we are committed to providing the students with opportunities to engage in authentic and rich performance tasks that enable them to demonstrate their greatest potential and achieve the highest level of success.  As the administrator, I continue to support Literacy and Numeracy skills by building on inquiry-based professional learning and instructional practices that contribute to the culture of learning in our school.  This is transferred into the classroom and continues to be the main focus of our students’ learning.  It is accomplished in collaboration, by students understanding how they learn best, and educators providing descriptive feedback identifying the strengths and needs of our students.  Educators are then able to program and together we can develop learning goals and success criteria for meeting success.  Some practices include; incorporating differentiated instruction and differentiated evaluation, integrating technology, and intervention practices as well as utilizing the expertise of our support staff as we move into 21st century learning.

At St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, our primary focus is on fostering a Christ-centered learning environment.  This in turn encompasses a safe, inclusive, healthy, and enjoyable learning environment, where students, staff, parents, and the parish come together regularly to celebrate the Eucharist.  This year marks the second year of the Pastoral plan of harmonizing our faith through FAMILY, PARISH and SCHOOL.  As a faith community, we continue to teach and foster Gospel values as we maintain the traditions of the Church.  It is through our daily interactions with one another, that students see us modeling the greatest commandment to, ‘Love God with all our might, and to Love our neighbour.’ We each have an important role and responsibility in the academic, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical well-being of our students.

As Catholic education moves forward, we, as a family, are faced with many challenges and we must be open to adapt to the changing needs of our students and be committed to seeking excellence in all areas of the curriculum and ensuring success for all.

God Bless
G. Iafrate
