Extended French Program

At St. Vincent de Paul, our students have the privilege of participating in the Extended French Program if they so choose from Grades 5 - 8. Not every school in the TCDSB has an Extended French Program!

In Extended French, students are taught in French for half the day and in English for the other half. The Extended French program offers a strong bilingual foundation for our students which may lead the way to bilingual job opportunities, culturally rich experiences, as well as developing strong independent study habits.

 Subjects taught in French:

  • French Language Arts

  • Social studies (Grades 5 and 6)

  • History and Geography (Grades 7 and 8)

  • Visual arts
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Physical Education & Health

Subjects taught in English:

  • English Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Vocal Music (Grade 5 and 6)
  • Instrumental Music (Grades 7 and 8)
  • Religious Education/Family Life

For students entering Grade 5 Extended French, it is strongly recommended that students have access to the following two books in class and at home:

  • A French-English dictionary (Larousse, Harraps or Robert Collins).  The mini dictionaries are not helpful
  • A book of French verbs - L'Art de Conjuguer by Bescherelle
