Student Achievement Continues to Improve Over Time in Toronto Catholic Schools:
Toronto Catholic District School Board students in grades 3, 6 and 9 continue to show improvement in provincial testing of reading, writing and mathematics.  Results for males and females have continued on an upward trend in most areas. English Language Learners have shown significant gains across all assessments and the scores for students with special needs have improved steadily.--Details

  • Neil McNeil Catholic High School and Notre Dame High School will be in the cross-country finals in Aurora on November 7th after their success at the Toronto Catholic District School Board cross-country championships on October 30.

  • Hanna Cabaj, Coordinator of Continuing Education (Adult Education) for being awarded the TESL (Teachers of English as a Second Language) Canada Honourary Life Membership Award.--Details

  • Lisa McGuckin, Resource Teacher in the Student Success Department, for being named this year’s recipient of the Ontario School Counsellors’ Association’s Howard Beattie Award for Professional Contribution.--Details

  • Anthony Petitti, TCDSB Acting Superintendent Area 9 is this years recipient of the OPHEA Award of Distinction which is presented to an individual who is a leader in the successful advancement of active, healthy living opportunities for children and youth in Ontario school communities. -- Details

  • Diane Vautour, Teacher at Loretto College School has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 Governor General’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History -- Details

  • The Toronto Catholic District School Board congratulates Wendy Agnew, Principal of Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School on her appointment as Justice of the Peace. Details

  • Greg Rogers, TCDSB Teacher and Coordinator of Student Leadership has been selected as this year's winner of the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan Teaching Award in the Secondary category. Greg has developed an overseas leadership program that focuses on four pillars including: adventure, leadership, learning, and service. Greg runs a program for students to go to Kenya every summer where they help to build schools, run camps, and teach local children.

  • Chaminade College School student wins Barry Diemert Music Bursary -- Details

  • Peter Barrans, TCDSB Safe Schools Coordinator was the recipient of the Toronto Police Services Partnership Citation Award, this award is in recognition of Peter's outstanding contribution to the Toronto Police Service and the Community.

  • Michelle Skalnicka from Don Bosco Secondary School, John Paul Lopez of Chaminade College School, Nicole Grgic from Michael Power/St. Joseph Secondary School, and Mauricio Curbelo of Bishop Allen Academy who were awarded the Angel Foundation's Tom Leon Bursary.--Details
  • Superintendent of Student Success Loretta Notten for being selected to receive the 2009 Spirit of Ontario Award in the field of education from the National Congress of Italian Canadians.--Details 
  • Chantelle Henriques and Wilson Carreiro, from St. Sebastian, for their achievements in the essay contest sponsored by the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Businesses and Professionals.--Details
  • Khrystyna Platko and Andrew Ansell, students from Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School, recipients of a Merit Award Bursary for the 2009-2010 school year.--Details
  • Lise Ngo, a grade 12 student at Blessed Mother Teresa CSS won first place in the French non-fiction category for the OECTA sponsored Young Authors Awards/prix jeunes ecrivans. As well as a cash award and certificate, Lise receives a copy of the commemorative book containing all the provincial winning entries.  The Blessed Mother Teresa student was the only Toronto winner in the French language category.
