Success Stories

Check out what some of our students have to say:

During the few months of completing co-op at a physiotherapy clinic many of my essential skills progressed positively. Constantly communicating with patients and observing doctors perform tasks gave me a true insight of what a physiotherapy job in the future may resemble. Both the co-op class time as well as my placement experience gave me the confidence and knowledge on how to apply for a job and a successful method to approach interviews in the future. In addition, the SHSM program gave me and many others the opportunity to receive multiple useful certificates and qualifications relating to the SHSM sector chosen by each student. A few free qualifications provided by SHSM in the environmental sector include First aid, CPR, and GPS tracking. To conclude, co-op is a great way to experience your future occupation and to get exposure to hands-on learning outside of the classroom. - Giancarlo M.

Coop was an incredible, eye opening experience that enlightened me to the workplace. It allowed me to develop and enhance my essential skills and work habits. Thus, allowing me to become work-ready. In addition, I was able to learn how a Pharmacy operates and goes about its day to day business. My coop experience is one I would have undoubtedly loved to have the opportunity to continue. But even in the short period of time spent I have the utmost confidence that my experience there has prepared me for the workplace. -Ayomikun A.

My co-op experience was one I thoroughly enjoyed and one I would undoubtedly repeat. The opportunity to have a hands-on presence in the field I wish to pursue reminded me of what I'm working toward and the road ahead. I was able to shadow and network with physicians at Humber River Hospital which gave me a better understanding on how one would be successful on their journey. I was trained and treated as a staff member. My preparation completed at school was thorough and I was prepared to tackle the health and safety expectations highlighted by Ms. Aquino. SHSM was also a very important part of the co-op experience and fantastic on a resume. It allows for the gain for certificates such as CPR and First Aid which are life saving skills. It is hands on and engaging. My awareness and impactfulness was made possible through the SHSM strands and the co-op outline, making me successful at placement. I would recommend co-op to anyone interested in a field or just wants to try it out, you may like it or realise the career you wanted to pursue just isn’t for you. - Nicholas F.
