St. Basil-The-Great Staff and Students stand with the Sugar Maple Tree planted in remembrance of Canadians serving in the armed forces, with the new memorial stone at the base of it

Five years ago on November 11, 2018, during the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War, the students and staff at St. Basil-the-Great College School planted a Sugar Maple Tree - which is also Canada's National Tree - on the front lawn of the school, in remembrance of those from the community and Canada who served in the armed forces.

Following the school’s Remembrance Day services/assemblies during Veteran’s Week in November 2023, the school placed a memorial stone at the base of the tree.

The school Chaplain, Ms. Carmela Vitiello, asked our Lord to bless the stone with the sprinkling of holy water and prayers during both assemblies. The engraved memorial granite stone speaks to the school community’s initiative of planting the tree five years ago. It is also dedicated "To The Memory of All Who Serve Freedom's Cause".
