School History

Established in September 1968 as an open-concept senior school, D’Arcy McGee was designed to serve students from St. Thomas Aquinas and St. John Bosco Catholic Schools. It is now a full elementary school, serving students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

In 1983, the school was redesigned with semi-permanent walls to create individual classrooms. Specialized facilities for science, technology, family studies, and music were added and remain among the best in the system.

Throughout its history, D’Arcy McGee Catholic School has provided quality Catholic education to the Vaughan-Oakwood community, fostering academic excellence, faith development, and inclusive learning.

Our Namesake

Our school is named after Thomas D’Arcy McGee, one of Canada’s Fathers of Confederation. Born in Carlingford, Ireland in 1825, he emigrated to America at 17 and later settled in Montreal, where he founded The New Era newspaper.

McGee played a key role in the formation of Canada and was tragically assassinated in 1868. Our school proudly honours his legacy as a great Canadian.
