St. Albert Catholic School hosted its first Sunny in Scarborough First LEGO League Explore Festival on May 31, 2025. 15 robotics teams across Ontario joined the St. Albert LEGO Robotics teams to engage in an event filled with activities and opportunities for Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, innovation, collaboration, and discovery.
The students were enthusiastic as they showcased their builds, talked about their team journey, and discussed what they learned about the ocean as they conducted research for the event's "submerged" theme. Energy filled the school building as students and guests from the community took part in exciting, STEM based activities, such as the Mary Ward Showcase, Save the Whale Game, Oil Spill Challenge.
Teachers and facilitators provided guidance, but it was the students who took the lead—demonstrating teamwork, creativity, and budding engineering skills. The atmosphere was a perfect blend of learning and play, showcasing the power of STEM education in sparking a lifelong love for innovation and technology. Thank you Annika Pint from First Robotics, the Mary Ward Robotics team ‘Wolverines’ lead by Michael D’Addario, St. Albert teachers and coaches; Marielle Loro, Corina Dias and Kim Macalintal and St. Albert Principal Mariangela Murano for creating these opportunities for students and the greater community.
