On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, St. Angela Catholic School proudly celebrated the official unveiling of the school’s Indigenous mural during a special outdoor ceremony. The mural was created by talented Indigenous artist Que Rock, an Anishinaabe multidisciplinary artist and professional muralist from Nipissing First Nation.
During the ceremony, students had the opportunity to learn about and experience the tradition of smudging. Que also shared teachings connected to the mural and explained how it serves as a visual land acknowledgment. Students were honoured to listen to Indigenous drummer and singer Nathan Roy, whose music added a meaningful and memorable element to the celebration.
Since the mural was installed in our schoolyard, the space has been transformed. It has become a place where students and staff pause, reflect, ask questions, and connect with one another.
Today, we did more than celebrate a mural. We unveiled a story of Indigenous teachings that will become part of the story and identity of our school. This meaningful work will remain here for our students, staff, families, and visitors to learn from and experience for years to come.
We hope this mural continues to inspire curiosity, creativity, conversation, and a deeper appreciation for Indigenous teachings within our school community.
Thank you, Que Rock, for sharing your art, teachings, and vision with us!
