St. Anne Catholic Academy, School of Virtual Learning graduating student awarded $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship

Evelina D., a graduating student from St. Anne Catholic Academy, School of Virtual Learning, has been awarded a $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship—one of Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate awards for students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Evelina, a Grade 12 student, is among 100 students across Canada selected this year to receive the scholarship, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and entrepreneurial potential. Her selection marks a milestone for St. Anne Catholic Academy, School of Virtual Learning, as she becomes one of the school’s first nominees to earn this distinction.

“When I won the Schulich Leader Scholarship, I felt shocked, yet deeply grateful to the teachers and staff at St. Anne Catholic Academy who supported me throughout my education,” Evelina said. “The meaningful feedback I received, along with their patience and dedication, made a significant difference. This award has empowered me to strive to make a meaningful impact in my community and to inspire others to follow their dreams, no matter how far they may seem.”

In addition to her academic achievements, Evelina has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. Over the past three years, she has volunteered with organizations supporting immigrants and newcomers to Canada, contributing her time to initiatives aimed at helping those in need.

Evelina was nominated by her guidance counsellor, Ms. M. Chiera, who noted that “Evelina’s volunteer efforts reflect the compassion, leadership, and sense of responsibility she has consistently demonstrated throughout her studies.”

The Schulich Leader Scholarships are awarded annually to students who show exceptional promise in STEM-related fields. The program provides 50 scholarships valued at $100,000 each for students pursuing science, technology, or mathematics programs at participating Canadian universities, along with additional awards for those entering engineering programs.

“We are proud to welcome Evelina D. as a Schulich Leader, joining a national community of exceptional students,” said Judy Schulich, president of The Schulich Foundation. “Her dedication to STEM will help drive innovation and future growth.”

The scholarship program was established by Canadian business leader and philanthropist Seymour Schulich and is widely regarded as one of the country’s most coveted undergraduate STEM awards.

Evelina will begin her post-secondary studies in a STEM-related field this fall.
