The St. Barbara Catholic School choir visited Scarborough Extendicare Nursing Home as part of a community partnership grounded in Catholic values of service, compassion, dignity, and care for others. The visit also aligns with the Music Care Certify Pilot Program, which promotes the use of music to support wellness, reduce isolation, and strengthen human connection.

Led by Music Instructor Mr. Llanera and Principal Yeaher, students performed familiar choral selections that created a warm, uplifting atmosphere for the staff and residents. The students also took time to greet residents, experiencing how live music can foster comfort, joy, and connection.

Staff and residents of the Scarborough Extendicare Nursing Home expressed sincere gratitude for the visit, noting the positive impact on mental health and well-being and inviting the choir to return for regular visits, including monthly birthday celebrations. This experience helped our students to continue growing in empathy, responsibility, and confidence while strengthening ties between the school, the Toronto Catholic District School Board, and the nursing home community.
