About Us
St. Cyril Catholic School is one of three schools in St. Edward the Confessor Parish. We are dedicated to fostering the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional growth of our students through focusing on our shared Catholic values and on academic achievement. We pride ourselves on the strong partnership that exists among the home, the school and the parish.
St. Cyril has an active parent community that supports the students both academically and through a wide variety of extracurricular activities. We are fortunate to have many staff and parents that volunteer their time and talents to assist with coaching, sporting tournaments, excursions, and other special days at the school.
How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students
At St. Cyril Catholic School, students are encouraged to become active members of the school community through a wide range of leadership, athletic, and extracurricular opportunities. Programs such as Student Council, W5H, house leagues, competitive sports, chess, and other clubs help students develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.
We are committed to meeting the diverse learning needs of all students through differentiated instruction, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), special education supports, English as a Second Language (ESL) programming, and early intervention initiatives. Our School-Based Support Team (SBST) works collaboratively with families, teachers, and board staff to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.
Strong partnerships with families are essential to student success. Ongoing communication, parent-teacher conferences, and regular school newsletters help keep parents informed and engaged in their child's learning.
St. Cyril is a caring and collaborative school community where older students mentor younger peers through initiatives such as reading buddies, church walks, and recess leadership. Student safety and well-being are supported through first aid-trained staff, conflict resolution programs, and safety education delivered in partnership with community organizations.
Our dedicated staff engage in continuous professional learning to provide high-quality instruction, while teacher candidates, co-op students, and parent volunteers further enrich the learning experience for our students.
Our School History and Tradition
St. Cyril, for whom our school is named, converted to Christianity against the laws of the government and despite opposition from his family. Because of his strong faith, he refused to renounce Christ, and was martyred by being cast into a fire. We aspire to follow St. Cyril's strong commitment to Christ.
St. Cyril was built in 1958 and extended in 1966 to include a third floor. Over the years, the school has established strong ties with the church and the community at large. Many of our current students have parents who are former St. Cyril graduates.
French immersion programming from Senior Kindergarten began in 1985 and from September 2015, French immersion began in Junior Kindergarten.
