School History

  • We opened in September 1969 with 244 students and were named after St. Dorothy of Caesarea.

  • We were established to serve the growing population in the Albion Road/Martingrove Road area of Rexdale and to help ease overcrowding at nearby St. Benedict and St. Andrew Catholic Schools.

  • We are served by St. Andrew’s Parish, maintaining a strong connection between our school and parish community.

  • As the surrounding community grew, so did our school. In 1982, with the support of the Parent Teacher Association, an addition was constructed to accommodate an enrolment of more than 900 students.

  • In September 1993, Holy Child Catholic School was established to serve families west of Highway 27 and initially operated from our school building.

  • Following the opening of Holy Child, our enrolment decreased as we became the designated school for students living east of Highway 27.

  • Holy Child moved into its own facility during the 1995–1996 school year, marking another important stage in the development of our local Catholic school community.
