About Us

At St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School, we pride ourselves on the strong partnership that exists among the home, the school and the parish.

How We Meet the Diverse Needs of Our Students

At St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School, we believe that each child deserves to attend school in a safe, inclusive and healthy learning environment. We strive to challenge each child’s academic potential and to assist each pupil to grow in the Catholic faith. We believe that Our Lord Jesus is the ultimate teacher, and we strive to follow his teachings. Our staff believe and work hard to ensure that all who enter our school are met with respect, caring and acceptance. Our school day begins and ends with prayers. School masses and liturgical celebrations are an important component of our faith community. Catholic values are infused into the school curriculum, and our students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 receive a rich religious education program.

The creation and maintenance of a safe and welcoming environment is a critical and important aspect of school life. Daily attendance is monitored, recorded and communicated to parents. A safe arrival program is in effect to ensure that all students are accounted for, either at home or at school. Parents and guardians must sign pupils in and out of the school for appointments. The visitor policy is enforced at all times. Pupils practice fire drills and lockdown procedures as required by the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB).

At St. Elizabeth Seton School we believe that every child deserves to feel safe so that they can focus their full attention and energy on academic growth. Our Code of Conduct is contained within student agenda books which are carried by children from grades one to eight. All discipline situations are handled individually. Positive behaviour and the reinforcement of good behaviour are stressed. To recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding conduct or personal qualities, we have monthly student awards given out at a special assembly.

The TCDSB follows Ministry curriculum and policy guidelines. Teachers at our school work cooperatively to plan and deliver a curriculum with an emphasis on objectives that will meet the needs of our students and the expectations of the Ontario curriculum. The teachers at St. Elizabeth Seton School are part of a professional learning community. They meet regularly to analyze student work in order to identify areas of strength and weakness and to develop instructional goals. Staff continually refine and enhance their professional skills through regular participation in divisional meetings and board-sponsored in-services.

In addition to the regular day, the teachers offer many extracurricular activities to meet students' interests and needs. Sport teams, cross-country, track and field, choir, and W5H are some examples. These activities take place before or after school hours, or at lunchtime.

School History and Tradition

St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School opened its doors in the fall of 1976. It has often been described as a showplace of learning, blending very well with the flavour of the neighbourhood.

Our school continues the tradition of successfully serving children and their parents in the local area, due to the cooperative efforts of a team of supportive, enthusiastic and industrious people. Imitation of the strength exhibited by our patron saint St. Elizabeth Seton is of paramount importance in all of four school activities.

Our school is named after St. Elizabeth Seton, who was a poet, translator, teacher and musician. She was a wife, mother of five children, mother superior and principal. She woke up early, toiled diligently all day and went to bed late each night. She founded the Sisters of Charity. Elizabeth Ann Seton was a remarkable woman, a powerful individual who believed in God's will, a treasure of the Church and a treasure of our school.
