St. Florence Catholic School has been awarded a $15,000 grant through the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation, bringing new opportunities for students to expand their access to books and foster a lifelong love of reading.
The Scarborough elementary school, part of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), will receive funding over the next three years, with $5,000 distributed annually to support the purchase of new books for the school’s library.
The grant was secured through a partnership between St. Florence Catholic School and Indigo’s Markville location, as part of the Indigo Love of Reading (ILOR) Foundation’s commitment to enhancing literacy resources in Canadian schools.
School administrators and staff played a key role in the successful grant application. Principal Sandy Gunter, Library Technician Andrea Smith, and Grade 8 teacher Stephanie Cilia were instrumental in helping St. Florence become a recipient of the funding.
This investment will allow the school to refresh and expand its library collection, providing students with greater access to diverse and engaging reading materials that support learning and literacy development.
Students and staff have welcomed the news with enthusiasm and are eager to begin selecting and enjoying the new books that will soon fill the library shelves.
