On May 5, 2025 (Monday), the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke was buzzing with excitement as students from across the province gathered for the annual Skills Ontario Provincial Championship. Among the crowd were two talented teams from St. Gabriel Lalemant Catholic School, proudly representing Team TCDSB in the LEGO Robotics Provincial Championship.
Both the Junior and Intermediate Robotics teams showcased their incredible talent and hard work during the competition. Out of 16 competing school board teams, the Junior team placed an impressive 5th, while the Intermediate team soared to 2nd place among 21 teams. These outstanding achievements are a testament to the students’ creativity, collaboration, and perseverance.
Beyond the competition, students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of skilled trades through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. From construction and electrical work to mining and food industry, the event offered a valuable glimpse into the many exciting career paths available in Ontario's skilled trades sector.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Li, head coach of the robotics team, whose leadership, dedication, and guidance played a key role in the team’s success. A special thank you to the IT Department Troy Douglas and Charles Chen for the use and preparing of the school board devices for this competition. A shout out to the SGL community for supporting the Robotic teams’ initiative and fundraising all year long for the purchase of parts and equipment for competitions. It truly takes a community to make this happen, and we thank you.
Congratulations to all team members for their hard work and excellent performance this season! Your achievements are a source of pride for St. Gabriel Lalemant and the entire TCDSB community.
