About Us

At St. Henry Catholic School, we focus on holistic learning, guided by the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. Rooted in Catholic beliefs and values, our approach nurtures students academically, spiritually, and socially.

Developing Discerning Believers

We foster faith development through monthly virtues and school liturgies held at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church. Daily announcements and assemblies also reinforce Catholic teachings and values throughout the school day.

Fostering Strong Communication Skills

Our school improvement plans focus on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, with an emphasis on helping students express their ideas clearly and confidently. Teachers use strategies such as guided reading, writer’s workshops, and the Daily Five program, which includes:

  • Read to self

  • Read to others

  • Reader response

  • Work on writing

  • Word work

These initiatives align with our goal of developing effective communicators.

Engaging Students Beyond the Classroom

We encourage full-day engagement through extracurricular programs like:

  • The Roadrunner program (Grades 3–8)

  • Spirit days

  • A planned house system

These activities promote school spirit and student involvement.

Professional Development for Staff

Staff development is guided by EQAO results and internal assessments. Recent efforts include training in guided reading, writing workshops, and participation in the Secondary School Learning Network (SSLN). These initiatives ensure our teaching practices support student success and align with Catholic Graduate Expectations.

Environmental and Healthy Living Initiatives

Our Eco Club has earned Eco Gold status for three consecutive years. We also promote healthy living through daily physical activity, including the Roadrunner running program, which is embraced by both students and staff.

Community and Parent Engagement

Our Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) supports learning and enrichment through:

  • Scientists in the School

  • Bussing for field trips

  • Dramatic presentations

Their contributions help enhance both academic and extracurricular experiences.

Our Commitment

We are proud of our ongoing efforts to nurture students who embody the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations. Through strong communication, collaboration with families and the Church, and a commitment to faith and academic excellence, we prepare our students to become responsible, engaged citizens.

Our History

St. Henry Catholic School was established in September 1980. During its first year, students were temporarily accommodated at St. Cyprian Catholic School on Pharmacy Avenue while the permanent building was under construction. In 1981, students moved into the current facility, which was officially opened and blessed by Rev. M. Robbertz, Pastor of Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, on April 29, 1982.

St. Henry has a long-standing tradition of striving for excellence in Catholic education. The school serves families in the area bounded by Steeles Avenue (north), Pharmacy Avenue (west), McNicoll Avenue (south), and Kennedy Road (east).

We are proud to be one of six schools within the Epiphany of Our Lord Parish.

Our Patron Saint

Our school is named after St. Henry II, whose feast day is celebrated on July 13. Known for his generosity and devotion, St. Henry established many religious foundations, supported charitable causes, and built the Cathedral of Bamberg.
