Our School
About Us
At St. Joachim Catholic School, we are committed to excellence in learning, living our shared Catholic story, and supporting our school families. Our community recognizes the deep connection between learning, faith, and community collaboration.
St. Joachim has served Catholic students in our community since the mid-20th century. In 2023, we celebrated our 60th anniversary and welcomed a new two-story addition on the eastern side of the school. This expansion features a bright atrium, a modern library, five new classrooms, and a welcoming front office.
Catholic School Graduate Expectations
Our staff, students, and parents work together to create a safe and welcoming learning environment where every student’s needs are met. Through high academic standards, athletic competitions, student leadership opportunities, Virtue and Empathy activities and awards, and social justice initiatives, we support our students in achieving the Catholic School Graduate Expectations set out by the Ministry of Education.
Academics
Our staff continuously work to improve instructional practices, particularly in language and mathematics, by implementing both new and proven strategies that enhance student engagement and achievement.
Our primary academic focus remains on problem-solving in mathematics. Students explore the relationships between operations—such as addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division—using strategies like adding up with benchmark numbers, using number lines, and applying the part-whole model across all math strands.
Technology plays a key role in supporting student learning. Students use Chromebooks and iPads to strengthen their reading, writing, math, and research skills. Programs like Prodigy and Lexia offer engaging, skill-building experiences. In the Early Learning Program and many primary classrooms, technology supports an inquiry-based approach, allowing students to explore topics of personal interest.
Co-Curricular Activities
At St. Joachim Catholic School, students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities, including athletics, academic quizzes (W5H), chess, coding, choir, and various social justice committees.
Our dedicated teachers generously volunteer their time to coach and supervise these programs, helping students grow into well-rounded Catholic school graduates.
Code of Conduct
As outlined in our school policy published in our school agendas, St. Joachim has a code of conduct based on Gospel values, which emphasize mutual respect, conflict resolution and self-discipline. Our Safe Arrival program uses SchoolMessenger for constant home-school communication when a student is absent or late.
Catholic School Parent Council
At St. Joachim Catholic School, we are proud to have an active and engaged Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC). The council’s primary focus is fundraising to support student learning and school initiatives.
Together, we organize a variety of fundraising events, including:
Monthly pizza lunches
Annual community barbecue
Special events like Dance-a-thons and Cookie Dough sales
The CSPC provides financial support for:
Class trips that enrich the curriculum
Student agendas
Classroom and library resources
Grade 8 Graduation celebrations
Transportation for athletic events
Thanks to the CSPC’s efforts, many students benefit from enhanced learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom, including attending dramatic and creative performances.

School History
St. Joachim Catholic School opened in September 1963 to help relieve overcrowding at Our Lady of Fatima, St. Maria Goretti, and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Schools, due to rapid population growth in the late 1950s and 1960s. The school was officially blessed on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, with hundreds in attendance.
From the beginning, St. Joachim earned a strong reputation for delivering a well-rounded education. Today, we continue that tradition by offering a strong core academic program along with enriching co-curricular opportunities in the arts, academics, and athletics.
Our Patron Saint
St. Joachim, the husband of St. Anne and father of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the school’s namesake. While little is known about his life, he is honored as a role model of faith and obedience to God.
At St. Joachim, our staff and students are committed to integrating Catholic Christian values into every aspect of the learning experience.
