About Us

At St. John Vianney Catholic School, we pride ourselves on the strong partnership that exists among the home, the school and the parish.

Co-Curricular Programs

We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities to support student development:

  • Literacy Programs: Family reading for primary students and reading buddies pairing older and younger students

  • Leadership Opportunities: School patrollers and student leaders receive leadership training

  • Clubs and Teams:

    • W5H (junior and intermediate)

    • Primary choir

    • Intermediate instrumental music

    • Soccer (primary and intermediate)

    • Volleyball (junior and intermediate)

    • Basketball, softball, cross-country, track and field

    • Drama club

Students take on leadership roles by helping organize school events, acting as lunch monitors, school patrollers, and assisting with play days. Parents and staff work together to maintain a strong, faith-based learning environment.

Parent and Community Involvement

The Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) supports students in need through the Educational Aid Fund. Student helpers contribute by assisting younger students at lunch, serving as bus buddies and participating in Student Council.

Parent volunteers support various school activities, including lunches, fundraisers, and CSPC events. The school also offers a snack program, providing nutritious snacks before morning recess.

Our caring and cooperative staff model Christian values daily. Each school day begins with community prayer, and all students participate in celebrations, Masses, and paraliturgies.

School History

St. John Vianney Catholic School opened in September 1979 with 175 students in portable classrooms on Thistledown Boulevard. The school was established to relieve overcrowding at St. Stephen Catholic School. At the time, most classes were combined, and there were no Special Education or English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. Without a gymnasium, students were bussed weekly to St. Benedict for physical education. The kindergarten and library operated out of standard classrooms.

In September 1984, the school moved to its current location, leased from the Toronto District School Board. Today, St. John Vianney offers a wide range of programs, including Special Education, ESL, Instrumental and Vocal Music, and International Languages (Italian).

Our Patron Saint

The school is named after St. John Vianney, a devoted priest known for his compassion and service. Inspired by his example, students and staff participate in charitable activities such as food drives and community outreach.

His feast day is celebrated on August 8.
