Our School
About Us
At St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School, we are committed to creating and maintaining a faith-filled learning environment where students are inspired to grow and develop their God-given talents.
While formal religious education is central to our curriculum at every grade level, our Catholic identity extends far beyond the classroom. We believe that every individual is infinitely valued in the eyes of God, and we reflect this through our daily interactions rooted in dignity and respect.
A Welcoming and Enriching Environment
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School is nestled beside Van Horne Park, offering students access to nature and outdoor learning. We also make use of nearby community resources such as:
Pleasantview Library
Pleasantview Community Centre skating rink
Local parks for nature exploration
Our school grounds and surrounding area provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment for all students.
A True Community School
We take pride in being a true community school. Through strong academic programming, meaningful partnerships with parents and the local church, and connections with community organizations, we strive for excellence in all we do.
A Catholic Environment
The Gospel message is woven into all aspects of school life. Prayer—both formal and informal—is a regular part of our day, whether in classrooms, meetings, or during liturgical and paraliturgical celebrations held at school or in church.
Our Catholic values are also reflected in:
School displays and assemblies
Charitable initiatives
Peace and social justice education
Monthly rosary prayer sessions through The Rosary Apostolates
These practices challenge and inspire our community to live out the teachings of Christ.
Strong Community Connections
We are proud of our close relationship with Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church and actively encourage parent involvement through volunteering and participation in our Catholic School Parent Council.

School History
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School was officially opened in 1983 under the name Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School. Following her canonization in 2012, the school was renamed to honor her sainthood.
About St. Kateri Tekakwitha
St. Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 near Auriesville, in present-day New York State. A member of the Mohawk nation, she lost her parents and brother to smallpox at a young age and was raised by her aunts and uncle. She first encountered Christianity through Jesuit missionaries and was baptized in 1676.
On the advice of a priest, Kateri journeyed to a Christian colony in Canada, arriving in 1677. She received her First Holy Communion on Christmas Day that same year. Through prayer and personal sacrifice, she dedicated her life to Christ.
Kateri passed away on April 17, 1680. Her final words were, “Jesus, Mary, I love you.”

St. Kateri Tekakwitha holds a special place in history as the first Native North American saint of Indigenous descent. Her unwavering faith, courage, and devotion continue to inspire our school community.
