St. Leo Catholic School marked International Women’s Day with a special celebration on Friday, March 6, bringing together students, staff, and community members to honour the achievements and contributions of women. The annual event was held in recognition of International Women’s Day, officially observed on March 8.

This year’s theme, "Give To Gain," encouraged members of the school community to reflect on the importance of generosity, mentorship, and supporting one another. Through meaningful conversations and inspiring stories, students were reminded of the impact that uplifting others can have both personally and within the wider community.

A highlight of the event was a keynote address by Michèle Bélanger, a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and retired coach of the Varsity Blues women’s basketball team at the University of Toronto. Bélanger shared her personal journey in sport and leadership, offering students insight into the dedication, perseverance, and confidence required to pursue their goals. Her message emphasized believing in oneself and embracing opportunities for growth, both on and off the court.

In addition to the keynote presentation, several accomplished female guests shared their stories and provided valuable perspectives on overcoming challenges, building resilience, and finding purpose in their work. The school community expressed gratitude to the speakers for taking the time to mentor and inspire the next generation. Their willingness to share their journeys helped make the celebration both memorable and meaningful for students.

By highlighting the power of mentorship and generosity, St. Leo Catholic School’s International Women’s Day celebration served as a reminder that supporting and uplifting others can create a lasting impact within the community and beyond.
