The viral “6-7” meme has made its way into the classroom at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School — and Grade 8 teacher Michael Grandsoult is turning it into a unique learning opportunity for his students.

After noticing how often his students referenced the “6-7” phrase online, Grandsoult began exploring the trend with them. He noted that the meme could be drawing from several cultural references, including the height of NBA player LaMelo Ball. Seeing its popularity, he decided to reshape it into something meaningful for his class.

Both CTV News and The Toronto Star recently profiled Grandsoult’s creative approach. Using hip hop as a teaching tool, he guides students in connecting the meme to important moments in Canadian history — particularly the years 1867 and 1967 — helping them transform what he calls “brainrot” into “brain thought.”

Through rhythm, lyrics, and modern slang, students explore historical events in a way that feels relevant, engaging, and connected to their own digital culture.
