Students at St. Michael Catholic School recently had the opportunity to build their skills, confidence, and teamwork through the Jays Care: Girls at Bat program, led over eight weeks by Ms. Kiala.
The program welcomed students in Grades 1, 2, and 3, introducing them to the fundamentals of baseball while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Through a variety of activities and skill-building exercises, participants not only learned how to play the game but also developed important life skills such as cooperation, communication, and self-confidence.
A unique aspect of the program was the involvement of selected Junior Leader students, who assisted in running small groups. These student leaders played a key role in mentoring younger participants, gaining valuable leadership experience while helping to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
The program concluded with a memorable celebration as athletes and their families were invited to the Rogers Centre Jays Care Community Clubhouse suite to watch the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Colorado Rockies. The outing provided an exciting and meaningful way to reinforce the lessons learned throughout the program, bringing students, families, and the school community together.
For many participants, the experience extended beyond the baseball diamond, leaving a lasting impact on their confidence, friendships, and love of sport.
