School History and Tradition

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School first opened its doors in 1957 with an initial enrolment of 206 pupils and seven teachers, including the Principal. The first graduating class was composed of 14 students. The population of St. Rose of Lima Catholic School grew over the years, resulting in 2 additions being added to the original building.

St. Rose of Lima Church

The church is conveniently located next door to the school. Students and staff are able to attend morning mass on special occasions before classes, and all students are afforded the opportunity to celebrate the Eucharist regularly in church with their class. Our prayer life, liturgical celebrations, the sacraments, and our faith and values system form the foundation of our programs. The parish priests and sisters make frequent visits to the school. They assist in preparing students for the sacraments, hear confessions and celebrate school masses.

St. Rose of Lima Day

At the beginning of the school year it has become a tradition to honor St. Rose of Lima through a liturgy and a school picnic at Thomson Park. On this day, students are encouraged to look to St. Rose as a source of inspiration and emulate her selflessness.

Also part of the St. Rose of Lima School community are the following:

  • St. Rose Best Breakfast Nutrition Program is supported by the Angel Foundation and St. Rose of Lima families. It is run by volunteers of the community and is available in the Church hall Monday to Friday, from 7:15 AM to 8:40 AM.

  • YMCA Daycare provides full-day daycare as well as before/after school care.

  • Parenting & Family Literacy Centre is a drop-in centre open to all parents/caregivers of pre-school children in the community. The Parenting Centre is free of charge.

  • Settlement Worker services are provided at the school to assist families new to the country to access supports within the community.

Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC)

The CSPC is comprised of parents and school staff who meet regularly throughout the school year to address issues, and plan activities that support the needs of the students and the school.
