Staff and students at St. Ursula Catholic School came together on February 26 to celebrate African Canadian Heritage Month with a vibrant and meaningful assembly. The program recognized the rich history and contributions of African Canadians, highlighting inspiring figures such as Viola Desmond, Mary Ann Shadd Cary, Lincoln Alexander, Harriet Tubman, and Mathieu Da Costa.
Students showcased their learning through music, dance, and fashion. Our Grades 2 and 3 performed the joyful Ghanaian song “Kye Kye Kule,” while Salah and Savannah shared the lively Caribbean piece “Coconut Woman.” The celebration also included an African Fashion Show and concluded with “Egwu Amara,” a traditional Nigerian dance performed by our Grades 5, 6, and 7 students.
This special assembly was a true celebration of learning, culture, and community. We are proud of our students for honouring African heritage through music, dance, history, and fashion. Together, we continue to celebrate diversity, deepen our understanding, and recognize the many contributions that strengthen our shared Canadian story.
