Grade 4 and 5 students at Canadian Martyrs Catholic School participated in the CBC Kids News workshop. Children in Ms. Collins-Donleavy’s class learnt about journalism and how to use the acronym TRQEE (Topic, Research, Questions, Equipment and Expert) to develop their reporting skills. During the workshop, reporters discovered that students enjoy playing ROBLOX. Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) journalists were investigating recent changes to the popular video game. A follow-up email asked for student experts to be interviewed. Four students were selected to be interviewed by the CBC. The students—Augustine, Martha, Seriyah, and Camden—were thrilled to make the CBC Kids News!

This was a valuable lesson and experience in the importance of good reporting. More importantly, the students realized that their opinion matters and their voice can be heard.

The students' opinions can be read at POLL — Some kids are upset about the new Roblox heads. Are you? | CBC Kids News.
