Holy Name Catholic School is proud to celebrate Paul Satura, Grades 5 to 8 Math and Science teacher, on receiving the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, one of Canada’s most prestigious honours recognizing outstanding educators.
Mr. Satura brings energy, creativity, and a deep love of STEM to his students, inspiring curiosity and confidence through innovative, hands-on learning experiences. Through the school’s gifted program, he works with more than 80 students from across Toronto each week, each with unique backgrounds, strengths, and learning styles.
Known for integrating science, media literacy, and real-world problem solving, Mr. Satura encourages students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and express themselves creatively. His classroom buzzes with invention and discovery, from quick puzzles and brain teasers that sharpen perseverance to engineering challenges where students design cardboard towers, catapults, and pulley systems.
He also embraces digital tools and global thinking, using platforms like Canva and Anki to support reflection and creativity while engaging students in projects tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, media bias, and land acknowledgements.
Former students fondly describe him as a teacher who "made our elementary school experience special" and "helped us grow into inquisitive, creative, and resilient learners with a true love of STEM."
Mr. Satura’s leadership has led students to national and international success, including:
National champions in the You be the Chemist competition

Beyond academics, he fosters community spirit and mentorship—organizing partnerships between older and younger students, supporting digital literacy, and even coaching a championship volleyball team. His efforts to advance digital equity include securing shared Chromebooks for students at a previous school.
Through his passion, innovation, and commitment to student success, Paul Satura exemplifies the transformative impact of teaching, inspiring learners to see themselves as creators, problem-solvers, and future leaders in STEM.
