Grade 11 students from James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School—Eghosa E. and Adnal O.—made headlines this past weekend after delivering outstanding performances at the world-renowned IMG Academy Track and Field Invitational in Florida. The event brought together elite youth athletes from around the globe, and Eghosa and Adnal were among just a handful of Canadians invited to compete—an honor that speaks volumes about their talent and dedication.
The two rising stars represented both our school and country with pride, competing in three of the most technically demanding events: Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer Throw. Eghosa dominated the field, taking home gold medals in both the Shot Put and Discus events, and finishing 6th in Hammer Throw. Not far behind was his teammate Adnal, who earned bronze medals in both Shot Put and Discus and placed 7th in Hammer Throw.
Their success on the international stage comes as no surprise to those who have watched them rise. Both athletes were introduced to the sport and first identified for their potential by James Cardinal McGuigan’s Track Coach Nick Vescio, whose eye for talent and passion for the sport have been instrumental in building the school’s elite track program.
Adding to the prestige, Adnal currently ranks #1 in Canada in Shot Put, while Eghosa holds the #1 national ranking in Discus—a testament to their dominance not just locally, but across the country.
Their rapid development is also credited to the powerful partnership between school and club coaching. Coach Nick Vescio and Project Athletic club coach Nathan Stern work in tandem year-round to ensure the boys are on track not only for provincial and national success, but also for future athletic scholarship opportunities in the United States. Stern’s specialized technical training and long-term development strategy have helped refine both athletes' skills and elevate their performance to an elite level.
At school, Eghosa and Adnal play a key role in James Cardinal McGuigan’s powerhouse track team, which now has its eyes set on a third consecutive Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championship title. Their teammates and coaches are inspired by their work ethic, focus, and hunger for excellence.
Behind every medal and every record is countless hours of training, discipline, and the support of a strong athletic community. The achievements of Eghosa Ehigiator and Adnal Oladejobi at the IMG Academy Invitational are a reflection of that commitment—and a sign of even greater things to come.
James Cardinal McGuigan couldn’t be prouder!
