On April 26, 2025 (Saturday) the 65th Annual Ontario Pro-Con Debate Forum Championship took place at James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School — and wow, what a finale it was. Whether you were there as a judge, a coach, a volunteer, or a supportive parent, it was a day to remember. The finals would not be possible without our amazing parent-volunteer judges, thirty-six in all.
The event was as fun and thought-provoking for everyone as it was for the tournament organizers—Enrico Cumbo (formerly of St. Joseph's Morrow Park Catholic Secondary School), Adrial Fitzgerald (Michael Power - St. Joseph High School), and Santino Bellisario (formerly of James Cardinal McGuigan CHS). Their support was essential. A huge shout-out to a group of alumni debaters who returned to the fold as judges—full circle moments like these are what Pro-Con is all about. And of course, a round of applause to Mike Da Costa (from Brebeuf College School), whose leadership and hard work has quietly supported the league for many years.
The finals debate was a powerful exchange on the impact of organized religion in society—spirited, insightful, and mostly respectful (which we love to see). Parent-judges in any of the debates know how impressive these students were. The level of discourse was top tier.
Schools interested in joining the Ontario Pro-Con Debating Forum should contact Mike Da Costa. We hope to see everyone at our kickoff workshop and tournament in October.
