At James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School, we are blessed to witness greatness growing in our midst. We proudly celebrate Divinegift O., a Grade 11 student whose dedication and grace have earned her All-American honours at the 2025 New Balance Nationals in Boston, and who won a Student Achievement Award at the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Awards Night on May 5, 2025 (Monday). With a personal-best triple jump of 12.51m, Divinegift finished first among Canadians and 4th overall out of 52 top competitors. Her journey from Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) gold to the world stage has been one of faith, focus, and quiet determination. "I always have a smile on my face, but I know how to lock in for my sport," she told The Catholic Register.
Her Olympic dream is alive—and closer than ever.
Behind Divinegift, and so many other student-athletes on similar paths, stands Coach Nicola Vescio, the Athletic Coordinator behind the TCDSB’s first-ever High Performance Athletics Program.
Coach Vescio doesn’t just build athletes—he builds resilient, faith-filled young people. Through his leadership, student-athletes receive more than just training—they are supported with nutrition, clothing, academic mentorship, mental resilience, and a spiritual foundation rooted in Christ’s compassion.
As a young father of three, Coach Vescio makes extraordinary sacrifices, dedicating evenings and weekends to ensure no student is left behind. He understands what’s at stake and gives everything to create opportunity. At JCM, we see the impact: six student-athletes are now on track for scholarships, and countless more are discovering their purpose and strength under his care. Few understand the countless hours it takes to run a program of this magnitude. But here at McGuigan, we see it every day: his humility, devotion, and tireless advocacy make the impossible possible.
We are honoured to walk this journey with both Divinegift and Coach Vescio. Together, they reflect the mission of Catholic education: to nurture the body, mind, and soul,and to prepare future leaders for greatness.
