At James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School, the future of skilled trades education is being reimagined—one student, one partnership, and one opportunity at a time. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Mario Pileggi, the Transportation SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) program has become more than just a classroom initiative—it’s a movement that’s transforming the way we nurture the next generation of trades professionals.
Through tireless commitment and a bold new approach, Mr. Pileggi and his team have cultivated a program rooted in real-world experience, equity, and innovation. Students at JCM aren’t just learning—they’re doing. And they’re doing it with the support of community stakeholders who believe in giving back.
Among those stepping up is Vision Glass Toronto, whose owner Mark has made mentorship and community empowerment a cornerstone of his business. More than a donor or partner, Mark is a changemaker—investing his time, knowledge, and resources directly into our students. One of his proudest accomplishments is Kofi, a TCDSB graduate and former mentee, who is now on the verge of owning his very own Vision Glass franchise. Kofi is not only thriving—he’s giving back by mentoring the next generation of youth from our very own school board, completing a powerful circle of opportunity and inspiration.
Another key supporter is Dave Tait of Elegant Motoring, who has long believed in hands-on, high-expectation mentorship. This summer, Dave has selected two JCM Transportation SHSM students to join his team full-time. These students will gain access to cutting-edge training and on-the-job experience that far exceeds what’s available within traditional classroom walls—bridging the gap between education and employment.
This kind of impact doesn’t happen by accident. It takes a village—students who show up ready to learn, staff who go above and beyond, and leaders who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. As Mr. Pileggi puts it, “This program isn’t just about cars or careers—it’s about purpose. We’re building pathways, restoring pride in skilled trades, and proving that when education and community work together, extraordinary things happen.”
To all the students, staff, and partners who helped take this program to the next level—congratulations. The road ahead is wide open, and we’re just getting started.
