This summer, Calgary played host to the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, the premier stage for Canada’s top young athletes to showcase their talents. The national competition drew the best high school track and field stars from across the country, all competing for the chance to be crowned Canadian champions.
Among the standout performances were two athletes from James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School (JCM) who left their mark on Canadian track and field history. Eghosa E. captured gold in the U18 Men’s Discus and Shot Put, while teammate Adnal O. earned the silver medal in the Discus, a remarkable 1-2 finish for JCM on the national stage.
Eghosa’s winning throw not only secured him the national title but also cemented his status as the #1 ranked U18 discus thrower and #1 Shot Putter in Canada. Even more impressively, his distances place him among the top 50 throwers in the world for his age group, a clear indication that he is on track for an elite international career.
Adnal’s performance was equally inspiring, as he claimed the silver medal in the U18 Men’s Discus, officially earning the distinction of being the #2 ranked thrower in Canada. His consistency and rapid improvement make him one of the brightest young prospects in Canadian throwing events.
Their dominance is a testament to the strength of the James Cardinal McGuigan track and field program, which continues to produce some of the nation’s most accomplished athletes. With provincial, national, and now world class rankings, JCM has solidified its reputation as a breeding ground for future champions.
By bringing home gold and silver from Calgary, Eghosa and Adnal not only elevated their own careers but also added to the growing legacy of JCM athletics. Their success serves as inspiration for younger athletes at the school who dream of competing and winning at the highest levels.
