This week, James Cardinal McGuigan hosted its first ever Newcomer Thanksgiving Celebration. This event was dedicated to welcoming and embracing our newcomer students. The celebration was a beautiful expression of gratitude, unity, and belonging, as students and staff gathered to share in traditional Thanksgiving foods.
The event was thoughtfully planned and prepared by our ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers, Chaplaincy team, and Child and Youth Workers (CYWs), who worked collaboratively to create a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Together, they ensured that every detail reflected the spirit of Thanksgiving and the traditions it holds.
A highlight of the celebration was the homemade pumpkin pies, lovingly made with the help of students. This hands-on experience allowed newcomers to engage with a classic Canadian tradition while learning, laughing, and connecting with their peers.
Beyond the delicious food, the event served as a meaningful reminder that Thanksgiving is not only about sharing a meal, but also about fostering community and gratitude.
